Crouch for Bent

Crouch and DefoeI’m a great admirer of Harry Redknapp as a manager, he is not only a good manager but he always seems to also have his eye out for a good bit of business in the transfer market.

But I have to say I can’t seem to understand his obsession with Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe.  He brought them together when he was at Portsmouth hoping the two England Internationals could forge a formidable partnership…but frankly it failed.

Now for some reason he has decided to purchase the pair again, bringing them back together at Spurs.  Harry could prove me wrong, but in my opinion Crouch and Defoe had plenty of time, in their half a season together, to show at least a glimmer of brilliance, which they failed to do.

It wouldn’t be much of gamble to bring in Crouch except for the fact that he has also decided to sell Darren Bent, who did net a good amount of goals for Spurs last season, and is a proven goal scorer.  It might come back to haunt me, but I think Harry has made a big mistake this time.

Toon just keep getting worse

Newcastle lose to Layton OrientJust when you think Newcastle have hit rock bottom, after being relegated to the championship, they manage to find a new low.  A full strength Newcastle team got thrashed 6-1 yesterday by lowly league one side Leyton Orient.

This summer was supposed to be about Mike Ashley finding a buyer quickly, bring in Alan Shearer as manager, rebuilding the squad and bouncing back up to the Premier league.   Instead the complete opposite has happened; no new owners, no manager, losing players without bringing any new players in, getting thrashed by league one teams, and to top it off, bringing out a new custard/banana yellow kit…

The season starts in just two weeks, and at this point I fully expect Newcastle to go the way of Leeds United and crash straight through the championship into league one.

I’m not one for scape goating, but it seem to me that Mike Ashley has single handedly driven this once great club into the ground.  He would probably be best advised to never show his face around the toon again.
